Bachelor of Science, Exercise and Wellness Concentration
The Exercise and Wellness concentration provides student with the knowledge and skills to assist individuals across the lifespan in adopting physical activity and other healthy behaviors that lead to increased fitness, wellness and optimal health. Plan of Study (PDF)
Students are prepared in:
- The sciences of cardiovascular and muscular fitness, nutrition, and stress management;
- Methods for promoting health behavior change;
- The knowledge and skills for instructing others in cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility exercises;
- The knowledge and skills for assessing and prescribing fitness and wellness behaviors to varied populations.
Bachelor of Science, Health Promotion Concentration
The Health Promotion concentration provides students the knowledge and skills to develop and deliver programs that enhance awareness about healthy lifestyle behavior, increase health-enhancing behaviors, decrease health risk behaviors, and create environments supportive of healthy lifestyles. Students are prepared in:
- Foundational knowledge in nutrition, physical activity, stress, and substance abuse for chronic disease prevention,
- Methods for promoting health behavior change,
- Professional knowledge, skills, and ethics for assessing group and community health needs, and
- Designing, implementing, administering, and evaluating effective health promotion programs in worksite, community, healthcare, and agency settings.
A distinctive aspect of the Exercise and Wellness program is an outstanding capstone internship that provides pre-professional experience in fitness, wellness, and health promotion industries and settings both locally and nationally.
Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies
The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) is an ASU degree designed for students with broad interdisciplinary interests. Students in the BIS program focusing in Wellness Foundations take a set of core courses from the Exercise and Wellness program and an elective course from a list of approved courses. Exercise and Wellness Minor
