Nutrition, Graduate Programs

Master of Science, Human Nutrition

The Master of Science in Human Nutrition program at the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion is based on the scientific foundations of nutrition, but also prepares students with strong writing skills, computer literacy, interpretive expertise, problem-solving skills and research experiences. The MS degree requires the completion of a minimum of 30 semester hours and a thesis.

If applicants also wish to obtain the credential of Registered Dietitian (RD) they must first complete a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) accredited by the American Dietetic Association and then apply to the MS degree program along with the ASU Dietetic Internship.

If you will NOT have completed a DPD program from either ASU or another college or university by the fall semester start of the ASU MS program, and your goal is to complete the ASU Dietetic Internship and become an RD, then we recommend the following:

  • First complete the ASU DPD program by enrolling for a BS degree in Dietetics
  • Then apply to either the ASU two-year combined MS degree plus dietetic internship track and/or the Non-degree dietetic internship track.

The program focuses on issues that contribute to health through the reduction of disease risk, quality of life promotion, and enhancement of well being. While many healthy lifestyles are studied, the emphasis is on physically active living and sound nutrition.
