Kinesiology Program, Undergraduate - FAQs

Q: Should I make an appointment with an advisor?

A: You should make an appointment with an advisor if you need assistance with any of the following services:

  • Course schedule changes that you are not able to manage yourself on My ASU.
  • Review admission requirements to change your major to Kinesiology (students who want to change their major from kinesiology to something else need to see the department they want to change to).
  • Late drop/add after the first week of classes. Late drop/add form (PDF)
  • Re-entering ASU if you have a "hold" on readmission.
  • Transferring to ASU (out-of-state transfer credits will be evaluated by your Kinesiology advisor).

Q: How do I obtain an override into a class?

A: Prerequisite overrides for Kinesiology courses are given to students who meet the prerequisite requirements for a Kinesiology course but when attempting to register they are given an error message stating they do not. These students can e-mail one of the advisors and do NOT need to make an appointment.

Information to include in the e-mail:

  • The course name(s) for which you are requesting a prerequisite override.
  • If you are currently completing or have completed a prerequisite for a Kinesiology course at a community college and need an override, please copy and paste a print screen of your unofficial transcript showing your grade or course end date and e-mail to kinesiology@asu.edu or fax (480) 965-2596.
  • Your ten-digit AFFILIATE ASU ID number.
  • The semester you want to take the course.

Overrides for classes that are full cannot be authorized by advisors. Students must continue checking the class schedule to see if a seat opens. A seat will open if someone drops the course or if the program opens more seats. Students who are not yet registered by the first scheduled day of the class MAY be given an override to enroll in the class. This type of override is given at the discretion of the instructor and must be coordinated in-person on the first course meeting of the term.

Q: What do I do if I need to take a course for the third time?

A: Complete the Petition to Standards Committee form (MS Word or PDF)

Q: What do I do if I would like to take more than 18 credits for the fall or spring semesters or more than 7 in a summer session?

A: Complete the Petition to Standards Committee form (MS Word or PDF)

Q: What do I do if I want to pursue concurrent degrees?

A: Complete the Petition to Standards Committee form (MS Word or PDF)

Q: How do I know if a class I took somewhere else will transfer to ASU?

A: Refer to the Course Equivalency Guide to get an idea of how your community college or in-state university classes will transfer to ASU.

Students from an out-of-state college or private college must first apply to ASU and be accepted. After admission, your academic advisor will assist you in the evaluation process and advise you regarding your remaining academic requirements.

Q: What potential career opportunities exist for Kinesiology majors?

The advisors in the Pre-Health Professions Office can provide you with personal attention, support and guidance as you pursue a career as a professional.
