About Our Faculty

Faculty of the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion at Arizona State University are highly talented, dedicated and diverse. Their interdisciplinary nature and broad expertise includes a range of specialties to increase health promotion and decrease chronic disease risks through exercise and wellness, nutrition, kinesiology and health sciences programs. Full-time nutrition faculty are all registered dietitians with advanced degrees.

Faculty are recognized for their extensive scholarship and wide-ranging real-world experiences that allow them to develop education programs that promote active lifestyles through exercise and dietary changes that contribute to disease prevention. By using evidenced-based outcomes to accelerate research into practice, faculty continue on a path committed to providing excellence in teaching in addition to service and advocacy to achieve healthy lifestyles and outcomes for local and global communities.

With recognition in the community, state, national and international levels, our faculty serve as leaders and role models while promoting positive outcomes in their respective fields. Nutrition lecturer Melinda Johnson serves as one of 13 national authorized spokespersons for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly known as the American Dietetic Association). Barbara Ainsworth, professor of exercise and wellness, currently serves as president of the American College of Sports Medicine.
